Yesterday, a list of words being cens0red from g0vern.ment research was released and “trauma” was amongst them.

But here’s the thing…just like many of the other words/concepts on the list, trauma doesn’t just “go away” because it’s not overtly discussed—it shapes mental health, physical well-being, relationships, and even how we show up in the world.

For too long, research on trauma has been ignored, suppressed, or overlooked, leaving many struggling with unaddressed wounds. Being trauma-informed isn’t just a buzzword—it’s a necessary shift in how we approach care, education, and healing.

The Washington Post shared this list earlier today and all I can say is, “This administration is showing us exactly who they are here for.” They are not for all people. They are for the non-melanated wealthy male and there is a grave danger to the suppression of research that supports people who do not fall into that category.

Please engage in your own research and understand what this means for everyone and our youth! How does this impact access to and the development of access to quality health care, education, mental health resources and so much more?! The federal government is not the only level of government that can impact change. Please get involved in your local politics and vote in the local and state elections that occur between presidential elections.

Quality of life and access for all are at stake. Political issues are mental health issues and mental health is political.

PSA: Another person on social media stated that people are waiting for Black folks to crash out and ignite a political uproar. This is how agitation and change occur. Listen to me well, many Black people, myself included, are choosing rest. We are tired of fighting for everyone and we tried to tell the people this was going to happen. Folks didn’t listen so we are taking care of ourselves and our families, protecting our peace. I will share the video so the message is clear. #blackpeopleresting #blackwomenresting

Had to break it down for my mama real quick! 👏🏾 A lot of people mix up Conscious Parenting, Gentle Parenting, and Permissive Parenting with Authoritarian Parenting sometimes being misconstrued in the mix. So here’s the tea:

✨ Conscious Parenting = Parenting with self-awareness and emotional regulation at the core. It’s about healing your triggers so you don’t project them onto your kids. You guide with intention, connection, and respect. 🧠💛

✨ Gentle Parenting = Prioritizing empathy, respect, and positive discipline. You set boundaries, but you do it with kindness and understanding—no yelling or harsh punishments, just teaching through connection. 💖

🚫 Permissive Parenting = Little to no boundaries, minimal discipline. This is where the confusion comes in! Conscious and Gentle Parenting still include structure and expectations, but in a way that nurtures trust and emotional intelligence. 🌱

⛔ Authoritarian Parenting = “Because I said so.” This approach is all about strict rules, obedience, and punishment with little room for discussion. It may create fear-based compliance but doesn’t always build trust or emotional safety. 😬

2025 has already tried to give me the business.

There have been career transitions, loss of loved ones, feelings of overwhelm and many unexpected blessings in between.

But I have been striving to maintain my peace.

When life gets to “life-ing,” you get to CHOOSE how you experience and respond to it.

When things you can’t control come your way, focus on what you do have control over.

This means focusing on YOU, and may look like taking a long shower or bath to relax after a long day, going for a walk or working out to release endorphins into your body, placing your phone on DND to manage who has access to you, taking a break from social media or social events, reading a new book or engaging in prayer and meditation.

These activities WILL NOT change life doing its thing, but they will offer some semblance of peace and space to pour into yourself so you can process and plan for handling the things outside of your control.

So if this year already has you feeling overwhelmed, take 5 minutes (more if you can) and be still. Remind yourself what you have control over and focus your attention and energy on those things.

In practicing these strategies myself, I am able to still walk in confidence that in spite of how it may feel right now, there is still more greatness ahead and this is STILL the year of ME!
